Project cost forecasting relies on actual costs incurred to date and on expected changes to the project, including changes in project requirements, because both affect the projected total cost.

In ServiceNow Demand Management, a demand can generate a change, project, or defect as downstream work records. Resources are allocated to work, and tasks are not among these demand-created artifact types.

ServiceNow Project Workspace determines the Analytics dashboard from the project execution type. For a Waterfall project, it displays the Project Summary – Waterfall dashboard; the documented execution-type mappings use project-summary dashboards rather than the Timecard, User Manager, or PMO dashboards.

In ServiceNow Project Workspace, a resource assignment for a user or group is created with a resource status of Pending. Attribute-based resource assignments are created as Unassigned instead.

In ServiceNow Demand Management, moving a submitted demand to the Screening state initiates stakeholder assessments; the demand manager can then send assessment surveys to stakeholders. Use Demand Management

Only users assigned the PPS Resource (pps_resource) role are considered for resource planning and can appear in resource plans.

ServiceNow Resource Management lets project managers request resources through resource plans using request types including Hours and Person Days. Month and Day describe time periods or allocation views, not resource-request types.

In ServiceNow Resource Management, total resource capacity is derived from the user or group schedule, with group capacity rolled up from members’ schedules. Capacity is not derived from FTE values.

A portfolio is a higher-level organizational entity that groups programs; it is not contained within a program. Program records can contain associated program tasks, issues, and cost plans.

Capacity planning evaluates resource capacity by the selected primary attribute, such as a resource group, role, or skill. A resource therefore needs a populated primary attribute value to be considered.

In the Now Create methodology, Transition is the stage that encompasses the Transition, Mobilize, Prepare, and Conduct activities.

Rate types categorize different kinds of work, including Standard versus Overtime. A rate type selected on a time card can also match the appropriate labor rate card for cost processing.

Planned cost is derived by multiplying planned hours by an applicable hourly rate. The hourly rate can come from the rate configuration associated with the project or from a rate card; ServiceNow documentation describes this project-associated source as a rate model and also supports labor rate cards for resource-plan cost calculations.

Program and project health reporting commonly uses the RAG (Red-Amber/Yellow-Green) status model. Each project submits a status report indicating its health as Green (on track), Yellow (at risk/needs attention), or Red (critical issues/off track), and these individual project statuses roll up to determine the overall program health. Orange is not one of the standard status colors used in this model.

When no schedule is supplied through either the Schedules related list or the Schedule field, ServiceNow Resource Management uses the instance default configured by the Default Schedule Name (com.snc.resource_management.default_schedule) property. The other properties govern effort or FTE-hour calculations, or a separate project-management default, rather than this fallback schedule selection.

An assignee list derived from a resource plan is limited to resources allocated through that plan. The Allocated state represents completed resource allocation and converts soft allocations to hard allocations, making the allocated resource eligible for assignment.

ServiceNow documents the Idea [im_idea_core] table as the default table for Idea Portal information and specifies that it extends the Task table.

ServiceNow requires either the pps_admin role or the it_rate_model_admin role to create or modify a rate model. The rate model administrator role has full rate-model management privileges, and the PPS administrator role includes that capability.

Demand Management supports promoting a qualified demand to a project, enhancement, change, or defect. It also supports creating and associating stakeholder records with a demand so stakeholders can provide requirements and assessments. Demand comparison and assessment is performed in the Demand Management workbench rather than Project Workspace; ideas originate through Idea Portal or catalog intake before evaluation.

ServiceNow's Idea Management feature is intentionally designed to allow open participation from the entire user base — any user of the platform can submit an idea through the Idea Portal, regardless of whether they hold a specialized role such as ITIL, demand, or IT-specific access. Role-based restrictions apply later in the idea lifecycle (for review, evaluation, and conversion into demands or projects), but the submission step itself is open to any user so that innovation and improvement suggestions can come from anyone in the organization.

The default Standard calendar defines an 8-hour workday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

For finalized resource assignments, ServiceNow can create attribute-based labor cost plans by selecting Generate labor costs in Project Workspace. It can also generate them automatically at a defined cadence by activating the scheduled job for labor costs for projects and demands.
