Capacity deduplication is recommended for full clones because those desktops contain repeated data blocks. Compression is the appropriate storage-efficiency setting for write-heavy databases. Erasure coding provides capacity savings for Hadoop data after it becomes write-cold; it is not a substitute for the required workload-specific configuration when combined with compression. Deduplication is not the appropriate setting for Hadoop because its data does not normally provide the duplicate-block benefit required here.
