About the Exam

This 90-minute, 60-question proctored HPE exam belongs to the HPE ASE - Storage Architect track. HPE targets partners, customers and staff with at least three years of storage design experience. Its largest section (40%) covers assessing a customer environment and planning, sizing and validating a proposal; others cover SAN topologies, drive interconnects, HPE Storage products and data protection. Passing demonstrates the ability to design HPE Storage from business needs.

QuestionQ1

Differentiate and apply foundational storage architectures and technologies

A customer’s large-scale network must meet these goals:

  • Many-to-many connectivity that requires high performance
  • Unknown or fluctuating I/O traffic patterns
  • SAN-wide storage pooling connected to backbone switches

Which type of FC SAN fabric should the customer implement?

Explanation

A core-edge fabric uses core switches to provide high-bandwidth, redundant connectivity for edge switches. It is suited to high-performance many-to-many connectivity, unknown or changing I/O traffic patterns, and SAN-wide storage pooling; the core switches function as the fabric backbone.

QuestionQ2

Differentiate and apply foundational storage architectures and technologies

Which lossless storage protocol can operate on the same infrastructure as VM traffic?

Explanation

NVMe over RoCE uses converged Ethernet and can share Ethernet infrastructure with VM traffic when the RoCE storage class is configured as lossless, typically with Data Center Bridging and Priority Flow Control. Dell’s VxRail guidance states that RoCE storage requires lossless transport and PFC priority over other network traffic.

QuestionQ3

Describe HPE Storage architectures and technologies

You are using the HPE ProLiant SSD Selector Tool. The customer needs a common protocol to authenticate and attest drives in an HPE server or storage system.

Which drive type should be selected?

Explanation

Security Protocol and Data Model (SPDM) provides a common standard for cryptographically authenticating supported hardware components, including NVMe drives, and for supplying signed attestations of their security state. Self-encrypting drives (including FIPS variants) provide data-at-rest encryption, while a TPM is a platform security component rather than the common drive authentication-and-attestation protocol.

QuestionQ4

Evaluate the customer's environment

What is the principle called that holds digital data subject to the laws and governance frameworks of the country in which it is collected, stored, or processed?

Explanation

Data sovereignty means digital data is subject to the laws and governance requirements of the jurisdiction where it is collected, stored, or processed.

Which FC port type connects to a different switch through an inter-switch link (ISL)?

Explanation

An E_Port is a Fibre Channel switch port that connects to another switch and establishes an inter-switch link (ISL).
