Correction Copy automatically recovers data to a spare disk when a drive is blocked. In a RAID5 parity group, the system reconstructs the failed drive’s data from the remaining drives and parity information as part of that recovery operation.

A VSP 5500 controller-box pair contains four controllers: two controllers in each of the two CBXs. The HSNBX-0 switch/HUB requires one LAN cable connection for each controller, resulting in four LAN cables.

A level-1 VSP 5100 configuration requires either an SBX (four DBS2 drive boxes) or an FBX (four DBF3 drive boxes). The four SAS expanders in either configuration provide the required backend connectivity.

VSP 5000 supports RAID 1 (2D+2D), RAID 5 (7D+1P), and RAID 6 (6D+2P) RAID group configurations. Its supported-layout list does not include RAID 5 (4D+1P) or RAID 6 (7D+2P).

The power-on procedure energizes the system at the PDU breakers, enables the power supply with the PS ON/PS OFF switch on HSNPANEL0, and starts each CBX using its Power Button. A LAN reset is not a normal power-on operation, and Power LED status is a confirmation of the resulting state rather than a required power-on action.

A Cache DIMM replacement requires blocking the controller that contains the cache memory, and a Controller PCB replacement requires taking the affected controller out of service. VSP 5000 maintenance documentation distinguishes these controller-block operations from HIE blocking and notes the system’s duplexed CFM configuration.

On VSP 5000-series systems, Copy Config Files is an SVP GUI operation available under Initial Setting and includes the Create Configuration Backup function. This is the supported method to preserve the configuration before a microcode upgrade.

The SSVP automatically generates the internal SVP IP address. For VSP 5000 systems, the private SVP address incorporates values generated from the storage-system serial number, so it is not manually assigned by the customer or preconfigured as one common address for all systems.

VSP 5000 cache configuration requires matched DIMM types and symmetrical cache capacity across paired controllers. CMG0 is the required default cache group, while CMG1 is optional for cache expansion. The hardware supports 32 GB and 64 GB cache-memory DIMMs, so cache is not limited to 128 GB DIMMs.

VSP 5600 systems use enhanced controller hardware and different DKC power supplies from VSP 5500 systems. A data-in-place upgrade from VSP 5500 to VSP 5600 replaces the controller boards and DKCPS units; the interconnect switch and Hitachi Interconnect Edge infrastructure are not the model-specific replacements.

Parity-group creation on a VSP 5100 requires installed drives in the appropriate Disk Unit slots, a Manual or Automatic drive-allocation method selected through the Maintenance Utility, and creation of the parity groups through Storage Navigator. The Maintenance Utility does not manually add the selected drives to the parity groups, and Web Console is not the interface for choosing their drive type.

A VSP 5600 supports a maximum of eight Channel Boards per node. Two CBX units provide two nodes, for a maximum of 16 CHBs.

Interconnect switches form the redundant node-interconnect infrastructure that routes traffic between nodes through Hitachi Interconnect Edge (HIE) and X-Path connections. The ISWs reside in the Hitachi Service and Network Boxes (HSNBXs), which current Hitachi documentation calls node interconnect switch chassis; each chassis contains two interconnect switches.
