The spanning-tree portfast command is the standard form used on Layer 2 access ports, where STP can immediately transition the port to forwarding for end-host connectivity. Trunk ports require a different explicit configuration (spanning-tree portfast trunk), and Layer 3 interfaces do not operate as STP switchports. Therefore, only access ports support the command in its basic form without extra configuration.
