Nutanix Database Service Time Machine snapshots are recovery points from which a new database clone can be created. Selecting the latest available snapshot and creating a clone produces a separate copy of the Oracle database at that snapshot’s state.

A Database Parameters profile centrally defines PostgreSQL server settings, including parameters that control connection capacity, and can be applied during database-server provisioning. High availability concerns redundancy rather than configuring the concurrent-connection limit.

The NDB GUI password is reset from the era-server CLI by running security password reset. The sudo passwd era command instead resets the Linux password for the era user, which is the NDB CLI password.

When the primary PostgreSQL node has been restored and can serve application traffic but the standby node restoration fails, the HA database is operational only in part. NDB therefore marks it as partially ready rather than fully online.

NDB multi-cluster setup requires the NDB Agent VM to be provisioned on an NDB-managed static VLAN. This provides the network configuration the agent needs to operate across registered clusters. Name prefixes are optional naming settings, and compute profiles define VM resources rather than the agent network.

For NDB HA deployments spanning AHV and ESXi clusters, Nutanix requires Nutanix Guest Tools (NGT) on the NDB server to provide cross-hypervisor support.

For an offline NDB deployment, obtain the upgrade bundle from the Nutanix Support portal and manually upload it to the NDB server. The NDB offline-upgrade procedure uses this transfer because the server cannot download the bundle directly from the internet.

PostgreSQL supports the Nutanix Database Service resilient-cluster deployment topology across three clusters, providing the required multi-cluster high-availability configuration.

NDB supports diagnostics-bundle generation and download through its GUI, including Administration > Diagnostics and operation-specific diagnostics, and through the NDB CLI. Prism Element and Prism Central are not the NDB-specific collection interfaces for this bundle.

NDB user-interface language preferences are stored locally in the web browser. A different workstation uses a separate browser context, so its NDB interface defaults to English; the setting is neither bound to the NDB user nor determined by the workstation regional settings.

Provisioning an Oracle database requires an available Oracle software profile, which defines the database software image and configuration used for the new instance. Time Machine, remote clusters, and an existing-database snapshot are not required to start single-instance provisioning.

NDB Time Machine provides point-in-time capability by combining snapshots with transaction logs. A snapshot supplies the base database state, and transaction logs allow recovery or clone provisioning to a later selected point in time.

For a One-Click Upgrade, an NDB server with Internet access can detect and obtain the latest upgrade through NDB. The patch is downloaded from the Administrator > Maintenance section of the NDB interface.

The Data Services IP is the cluster-wide iSCSI endpoint used for target discovery and connections to Nutanix storage services. It provides a highly available address that can move between Controller VMs, rather than requiring clients to connect directly to an individual CVM.

NDB supports high-availability deployments for Oracle, including Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), and for PostgreSQL through NDB-managed HA clusters. MongoDB is a NoSQL database, and MariaDB is not supported for this HA-instance provisioning selection.

NDB requires storage-container mapping when the NDB Server storage container and the container NDB uses for provisioning are different. The mapping associates the remote storage container with the appropriate NDB storage container so NDB can provision and manage database workloads across the registered cluster.

A repository provides the operating-system update packages that Nutanix Database Service uses to patch database server VMs. Pulse, Active Directory access, and SMTP configuration do not provide the patch source.

A retained Time Machine whose associated database has been deregistered is placed in the Frozen state. The retained recovery data remains available, but the Time Machine is no longer actively associated with a registered source database.

Communication limited to the local VLAN indicates an incorrect or absent default gateway. Updating the default gateway on the deployed PostgreSQL servers restores routed connectivity, while updating the NDB configuration for PGSQLVLAN40 ensures that subsequently deployed servers receive the correct gateway. NDB managed-network configuration includes the network default gateway.

For a single repository VM failure, NDB has no service interruption when the failed VM is neither the primary repository node nor the secondary node holding the synchronized copy. Only loss of either of those active roles causes a brief repository-service interruption.

In Nutanix Database Service, the Log Catch-up operation copies transaction logs from the source database to the Time Machine, supporting point-in-time recovery. Snapshots capture database recovery points rather than the ongoing transaction logs.

NDB’s database-scaling operation increases the storage capacity of NDB-managed SQL Server databases by expanding the database data and log areas. This is the supported NDB task for additional database storage capacity.

Publishing a software-profile update makes the new database software version available for use by database server VMs associated with that software profile, allowing their SQL Server software to be patched on demand or through scheduled patching. Publishing makes an update available; it does not itself perform the patch.

The NDB Database Administrator (DBA) role permits database operations, including provisioning, while avoiding the additional infrastructure and full-administration privileges granted by the Database Infrastructure Administrator and Super Administrator roles.
