In the interface-ful IP-VRF-to-IP-VRF model, each VPRN (IP-VRF) instance is given a full IRB interface (with its own MAC and IP address) toward a Supplementary Broadcast Domain (SBD), which is implemented as a backhaul Routed VPLS (R-VPLS) service. This SBD is the mechanism used to interconnect the VPRN instances across the participating PEs so that inter-subnet (routed) traffic can be forwarded between VRFs. Intra-subnet traffic remains local to its own bridge domain and is not carried over the SBD, and subnet IP prefixes are advertised using EVPN IP Prefix (Type 5) routes — with recursive resolution to MAC/IP (Type 2) routes for gateway MAC resolution — rather than MAC/IP routes populating the VPRN route table directly.
