A native VLAN maps untagged traffic from the PC-facing Ethernet port to the Internet service VLAN and delivers that service’s traffic back to the PC untagged. This is required because a PC connected directly to ETH1 normally does not add 802.1Q VLAN tags.

A properly executed fiber splice has the lowest insertion loss because the fibers are permanently aligned. A cord-end connector introduces additional termination loss, while a movable connector has the greatest loss because its separable mating interface is more susceptible to alignment, end-face, and contact variations.

Class C++ provides the largest optical loss budget among the listed PON optical classes, exceeding Class C+, Class B+, and Class B. Higher optical class budgets support greater allowable attenuation in the optical distribution network.

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an application-layer protocol. It uses transport services such as UDP to exchange network-management messages.

The Trap source address must be set to the same device IP address that the NMS uses to add and identify the device. This lets the NMS recognize the alarm source and receive the trap normally; 127.0.0.1 and a loopback address are local-only addresses rather than NMS-facing management addresses.

An SNMP agent runs on and manages its local managed device. It responds to requests from the NMS, collects local status data, and can report notifications to the NMS, but it executes received management commands on the managed device rather than on the NMS.

ONT provisioning on an OLT requires adding the ONT and binding the applicable ONT profile or profiles. The service and line profiles define the ONT’s provisioned capabilities and configuration; a DBA profile alone does not add the ONT.

For a GPON ONU whose Control flag is deactivated, the OLT activates it with the ont activate command.

An ONT line profile configures the GPON transmission resources and traffic mapping: T-CONTs provide bandwidth containers, GEM ports carry encapsulated traffic, and traffic is mapped to the applicable GEM ports. The number of physical Ethernet ports is a service-profile capability setting, not a line-profile parameter.

MA5800 upstream interfaces support GE and 10 GE operation, with 10 GE as the default upstream setting. The speed command can adjust the interface speed, and the local upstream port must be configured to match the interconnected upper-layer port’s rate to avoid a link or communication mismatch.

For an ONU queried through display ont info, the Run state online explicitly indicates that the ONU has registered with the OLT and is online.

FTP, TFTP, and SFTP are supported file-transfer modes for access-network upgrades, and FTP is the recommended mode for this process.

An OLT board reset can be tested by reinserting a hot-swappable board, using the control board’s physical reset button, or issuing the board reset command for a service board, followed by confirming that the board returns to normal operation. Huawei documentation recognizes reset events caused by board removal and reinsertion, a board button, and a reset command.

CATV is carried as a separate optical overlay, while non-CATV services use the PON transport. A POTS service may be delivered as TDM and transparently transported over GEM; TDM-over-GEM and Ethernet-over-GEM are distinct supported mappings, so POTS is not inherently required to be Ethernet-encapsulated or universally a direct-GEM service.

OLT traffic classification supports matching user-side traffic by VLAN, by VLAN together with user-side packet priority, by VLAN together with user-side service encapsulation, or by user-side service encapsulation alone.

A Smart VLAN supports the QinQ attribute and VLAN stacking for double-tagged service traffic. QinQ encapsulates a customer VLAN tag with an outer service-provider VLAN tag, expanding VLAN space and enabling differentiated service transport.

Type 4 DBA supplies maximum, best-effort bandwidth rather than fixed or assured bandwidth. This is appropriate for typical AP data traffic, whose upstream demand is bursty and does not normally require a guaranteed bandwidth allocation.

Huawei OLT service forwarding isolates ONUs at Layer 2 by default to prevent subscriber-to-subscriber traffic. Sharing a service VLAN does not, by itself, enable communication between ONUs on the same PON port; the required interworking must be configured explicitly.

VLAN stacking adds and processes an outer service VLAN tag while retaining an inner user VLAN tag, enabling separate identification of services and users. In Huawei VLAN configuration, this requires a Smart VLAN with the stacking attribute.

DBA dynamically adjusts ONU upstream grants according to current demand, enabling efficient use of shared upstream PON capacity and accommodating services with large, bursty bandwidth needs. It operates on short allocation intervals, typically microseconds or milliseconds. Upstream collision avoidance is a basic GPON TDMA/ranging scheduling requirement rather than a separate DBA service function. Ericsson describes PON DBA as supporting efficient and fair use of upstream bandwidth while meeting traffic QoS requirements.

A Common VLAN provides normal single-tag VLAN-based service separation. QinQ and VLAN stacking add an additional outer VLAN tag for double-tagged transport, whereas sub-VLANs are used for VLAN aggregation rather than ordinary service-based segmentation.
