A highly available Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL instance is a relational, ACID-compliant database configuration with a standby instance in a secondary zone. If the primary instance or zone fails, Cloud SQL automatically fails over to the standby, minimizing required human intervention. Point-in-time recovery restores data to a chosen time but does not provide automatic failover.
