A single-target exporter is normally deployed beside the monitored instance and exposes metrics for that one instance. Node Exporter collects and exposes metrics for the individual host on which it runs. By contrast, Prometheus explicitly identifies the SNMP and Blackbox exporters as multi-target exporters, which receive targets as request parameters and can query multiple targets.
