QuestionQ42

Multicast

What function does an MGID serve?

Explanation

An MGID (multicast group ID) identifies a multicast group on a wireless controller, typically as the combination of the Layer 3 multicast address and VLAN, and lets the controller maintain the clients registered to receive that group’s traffic. Therefore, it identifies the multicast group address and its registered recipients. An MGID is not an identifier for an individual multicast interface; interfaces and VLANs are attributes used in the group mapping.
