Priority Queuing (PQ) is designed to give delay-sensitive traffic such as voice strict preferential treatment over ordinary data flows. Because voice requires low latency and low jitter, placing it in a priority queue helps ensure it is transmitted ahead of less time-sensitive traffic. FIFO does not differentiate traffic, WRED is a congestion-avoidance drop mechanism, and WFQ improves fairness but does not provide the same strict priority treatment for voice.
