QuestionQ25

VerifiedSection 5 - Troubleshoot and optimize the VMware Solution

The DevOps Engineer was assigned to deploy a new application on a local k3s installation. After the application was deployed in the Namespace, it was determined that a newer Kubernetes version was needed. The DevOps Engineer asked the vSphere Admin to upgrade the Kubernetes version.

The vSphere Admin verified compatibility between the Supervisor and every running VKS cluster, then successfully upgraded the vSphere Supervisor to the latest version. The DevOps Engineer was unable to make the application work.

What caused the application failure?

Explanation

A Supervisor control-plane upgrade does not automatically change the Kubernetes version of an existing VKS workload cluster. The workload cluster must be upgraded separately to a Kubernetes release that supports the application; otherwise the application remains on the earlier cluster version despite the successful Supervisor upgrade.
