An In argument only supplies data to the invoked workflow, so it can use either a hard-coded value or a variable. Out and In/Out arguments must receive a value back from the invoked workflow, which requires a writable variable location. UiPath documents that arguments transfer data between automations and distinguishes their In, Out, and In/Out directions.
