Contact Key is the unique identifier used to associate a contact’s data and subscriptions across channels. It is designed to be channel-independent; Salesforce recommends using a unique value not tied to a particular channel, rather than an email address. Subscriber ID is an internal system surrogate key and is not intended for Engagement activities.
