QuestionQ45

Storage Protocols and Connectivity

An administrator has an existing FlexVol volume accessed by Linux hosts over NFSv3. A CIFS share for SMB access was created for that same FlexVol volume. Some Windows users cannot view the share. CIFS share permissions grant those Windows users read and write access.

What must the administrator do to allow SMB access?

Explanation

ONTAP multiprotocol access requires name mapping to translate CIFS/Windows user identities to UNIX identities so it can obtain credentials and enforce access to data also served through NFS. CIFS share permissions do not replace this identity mapping.
