What is the significance of this capability?
A hardware VTEP can encapsulate and decapsulate VXLAN traffic for devices that cannot operate as VTEPs themselves, such as bare-metal servers. This enables those attached servers to communicate across the Layer 3 fabric through a VXLAN overlay network.
