Portability allows data, workloads, and services to be moved between cloud providers or environments. That capability is critical to a BCDR strategy because recovery may require failover to an alternate provider or location without extensive reconfiguration. NIST identifies portability as enabling data to move from one cloud system to another, and the Cloud Security Alliance includes secure backup, transfer, and restoration among portability responsibilities.
