Data Science Fundamentals

Qualitative data (also called categorical data) consists of labels or categories that describe a quality or characteristic rather than a measurable quantity. Gender (e.g., male/female) is a category assigned to an individual and cannot be meaningfully summed, averaged, or ordered numerically, making it a textbook example of qualitative data. In contrast, 'Number of children' is quantitative (discrete numeric) data because it involves counting a numeric value.
