IBM's Content Platform Engine installation documentation for AIX (and other UNIX platforms) requires that the installation be performed by the root user, or by a user account that has su access to root, because the installer must perform privileged operations such as creating system-level directories, setting file and directory permissions/ownership, and configuring OS resource limits (e.g., fsize and nofiles) that are needed for full-text indexing, video transcription, and thumbnail generation features. A standard OS user without root or su-to-root privileges cannot complete these required installation steps.
