QuestionQ31

Storage Design and Tuning

Huawei OceanStor Dorado all-flash storage systems use the erasure coding (EC) algorithm for Dynamic RAID technology. In all-SSD configurations, the number of chunks (CKs) in a chunk group (CKG) can be adjusted dynamically. If a CK fails and no new block is available from disks outside the storage pool, the system dynamically reconstructs data from the original N + M stripes to new (N – 1) + M stripes. When new SSDs are added, the system reconstructs the CKG and dynamically migrates data from the (N – 1) + M stripes to the new N + M stripes.

Explanation

Huawei Dynamic RAID reconstruction uses erasure coding to dynamically adjust CKG chunk counts in all-SSD configurations. When no external replacement chunk is available after a chunk fault, the layout changes from N+M to (N-1)+M; after a new SSD is inserted, data is migrated back to newly constructed N+M chunks.
