QuestionQ30

Network Stack

Match the most cost-effective cabling option to each requirement. All lengths include the total cable length, including patch cables and service loops where used.

Drag & Drop
Cat 6a cable
Direct Attach Cooper (DAC) cable
multimode fiber
single mode fiber
Cat 5e cable
100 Gb connection with a length of 10’ (3M) between two switches in the data center
1Gb connection with a length of 100’(30M) between an edge switch and a user desktop
10 Gb connection with a length of 200’ (60M) between the distribution switch in the main wiring closet and the edge switch in a remote wiring closet
1 Gb connection with a length of 2km between two switches in different buildings
Explanation

Direct-attach copper is the lowest-cost practical medium for a 3 m 100 Gb switch link. Cat 5e supports 1 Gb Ethernet over the 30 m desktop run, while Cat 6a supports 10 Gb Ethernet over the 60 m wiring-closet run. A 2 km inter-building link requires single-mode fiber; multimode fiber is for shorter optical links.
