QuestionQ29

VerifiedUnknown / not found in official Broadcom sources

An architect has newly deployed an NSX Edge cluster in a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) fleet. The BGP peer between the NSX Tier-0 gateway and the top-of-rack routers is up and stable.

The BGP connection is established, but the NSX Tier-0 gateway is not receiving a default route from the top-of-rack routers. Workloads within NSX have no Internet access.

What could resolve this?

Explanation

A BGP adjacency can be established even when the neighbor advertises no prefixes. The Tier-0 gateway needs a default route (0.0.0.0/0) from its northbound ToR router to forward Internet-bound workload traffic. Configuring and advertising that default route from the ToR to the Tier-0 restores the required external path. Broadcom documentation likewise identifies a healthy Tier-0 entry as a default route learned through the external BGP neighbor and directs administrators to ensure the BGP neighbor advertises routes into NSX.
