Claude model selection should satisfy the task’s quality, latency, and cost requirements jointly, because model capability, response time, and token pricing are interdependent tradeoffs. Selecting by one dimension first and evaluating the others only afterward can produce a model that is unsuitable for the overall workload. Anthropic’s model pricing documentation also shows that Claude models have materially different costs, reinforcing that cost must be considered alongside performance requirements.
