QuestionQ26

Incident and Event Response

An application is running on Amazon EC2 instances behind an Application Load Balancer (ALB). A DevOps Engineer uses AWS CodeDeploy to deploy a new version. The deployment fails during the AllowTraffic lifecycle event, but the deployment logs do not show the cause of the failure.

What could cause this?

Explanation

For an EC2/On-Premises blue/green CodeDeploy deployment, a failure during the AllowTraffic lifecycle event with no cause reported in the deployment logs is typically caused by incorrectly configured Elastic Load Balancing health checks. With an ALB, the relevant checks are the target group health checks. The AllowTraffic event is reserved for CodeDeploy and cannot execute AppSpec scripts.
